Review: Dermalogica Clearing Mattifier

Mr Neo Luxe reviews Dermaogica's Clearing Mattifier

While the warmer seasons of the year are by far my favourite, I’m not going to deny that the hot weather doesn’t reap havoc on my skin. Having an oily skin type I’m not a stranger to a little afternoon shine, but as I’m getting older, I’m finding it’s getting worse. Combine this with the Sydney heatwaves and working in an air-conditioned office, my skin looks like it contains more oil than a fast food deep dryer. A product that I used in my earlier 20s was Dermalogica’s Clearing Mattifier to help control breakouts and reduce oil, and it was very effective. Now almost eight years on I’m using this product again for an entirely different reason and it works just as well.

Product name: Dermalogica Clearing Mattifier

What it does: This targeting treatment is designed for acne and break-out prone skin and is medicated to clear breakouts, congestion and control shine. It’s formulated with Vitamin A to help reverse the signs of photo ageing while improving skin’s elasticity, along with Cinnamon Bark blend to eliminate bacteria and reduce blackheads. A blend of botanicals regulate oil and reduce shine throughout the day.

Results: This ultra-light weight gel melts into the skin and instantly mattifies, giving the skin a smooth appearance. I like to apply this product on my forehead and occasionally on my nose where I suffer from blackheads. Anyone who uses makeup or BB cream in the morning will love this product as it primes the skin and allows for a smooth makeup application. As far as the oil production is concerned, this product works a treat and reduces afternoon shine significantly. Depending on your skin, you’ll need to adjust how much you use, but I like to judge on the application. I like the oil prone areas to look quite matte in the morning allowing me to achieve a nice dewy appearance by the afternoon. I did also notice a reduction in blackheads and a visible reduction in fine lines.

For anyone who suffers from breakouts, Clearing Mattifier can be used as a spot treatment or applied to acne-prone areas. This product is gentle, efficient and odourless unlike other pimple fighting creams on the market. I’m convinced anyone with oily skin will enjoy this product and anyone suffering from problem prone skin should give it a go.

How to use: After cleansing, apply sparingly to areas prone to excess oil production or breakouts.

Price: Dermalogica Clearing Mattifier 40ml $68.
