The temperatures rising and spring has truly set in. It’s once again time to review our fragrance choices for the season by retiring some of our heavy spicy fragrances for yet another year. In spring I enjoy fragrances with combine refreshing citrus and marine accords with light woody notes at the base. Here are a few of the fragrances for men I’m wearing this season:
Kenzo Pour Homme
Earlier this year Kenzo released an Eau de Parfum edition of its signature scent for men and I couldn’t be happier. This latest version is described as more intense than the original, and it is exactly that. It combines notes of citrus, mint and marine accords with a woody and creamy base of cedar, sandalwood and vanilla. What I love most about this fragrance is its staying power which lasts for hours on my skin which is impressive for a refreshing scent. Kenzo Pour Homme EDP is a great casual fragrance which can be dressed up or down – I recently wore this fragrance to a relaxed country wedding in the evening and it was a hit. Kenzo Pour Homme Eau de Parfum 100ml $131. Available now from Myer and David Jones department stores.
Hugo Boss Hugo Man Extreme
Hugo Boss’ iconic 90s fragrance received an extreme boost of freshness earlier this year taking it to the next level for spring. Hugo Man Extreme features delicious top notes of green apples which have been intensified to increase freshness, followed by notes of lavender and sage. Its powerful base consists of distinctive cedarwood and fir which give this energising scent longevity on the skin. Hugo Man Extreme is a great casual scent which can be worn anytime during spring or summer. I personally enjoy wearing this scent during the day when I’m out and about. Hugo Boss Hugo Man Extreme 60ml EDT $82
Roberto Cavalli Uomo
Anyone who is familiar with the Roberto Cavalli brand knows the designs are flamboyant and push boundaries. This is exactly what you should expect with the latest fragrance Robert Cavalli Uomo. Described as an aromatic oriental woody fragrance, it opens with a distinctive note of black violet which captivates with its mystery. Saffron has also been added to give this fragrance a masculine edge along with honey and lavender. The fragrance then settles with a beautiful seductive trail of patchouli, cedarwood and tonka beans. A great casual scent which can be worn day or night in spring. Roberto Cavalli Uomo will be a hit with the gentleman in his 20s. Roberto Cavalli Uomo 60ml EDT $80. Available from selected Myer and David Jones department stores nationally.
Christian Dior Sauvage
Dior’s Sauvage dominated the male fragrance world last year, and its success is likely to continue throughout spring and summer this year. Described as a ‘radically’ fresh fragrance it combines radiant bergamot – Reggio di Calabria Bergamot to be exact – with Ambroxan a derivative of ambergris to create a powerful woody trail. On the skin, this fragrance lasts for hours and it’s refreshing/woody composition really shines. Before actually trying this fragrance on my skin, I had asked a few passers-by what scent they were wearing and respond with Sauvage. A close friend of mine owns this perfume and it smells completely different on him than it does on me; however, in both instances its striking. Sauvage can be worn both day and night and in summer my recommendation would be less in more during the day. Lovers of this fragrance will also be thrilled that it’s been released in a 200ml edition in time for summer and a bath and body line as well. Christian Dior Sauvage 200ml RRP $224. Available from Dior Perfume and Beauty Boutiques, along with Myer and David Jones department stores.
Jimmy Choo Man Intense
When I see the word ‘intense’ associated with a fragrance I instantly think spicy and leathery warm notes. This is absolutely not the case with the latest fragrance by Jimmy Choo. In a follow-up to the 2014 fragrance debut, Jimmy Choo has unveiled Jimmy Choo Man Intense, a richer, more sensual edition of the original scent. This masculine and confident fragrance combines refreshing notes of Honeydew Melon and Mandarin oil with lavender to captivate with each spray. The fragrance then settles with a nice woody impression made up of tonka bean and a patchouli heart. This fragrance is ideal for wear day or night in spring. In summer I would recommend wearing it in the evening. A great scent for the office or when you’re heading out for after work drinks. Jimmy Choo Man Intense EDT 100ml $129. Available exclusively to Myer department stores nationally.
