Hot, humid weather calls for a refreshing beverage, and I can’t go past a gin and tonic. When it comes to choosing the perfect gin for the occasion, I can’t go past Hendrick’s Gin. Why Hendrick’s you ask? Like most gins, Hendrick’s is blended with a number of botanicals – eleven to be exact – but what really makes this Scottish gin stand out is the additional ingredients it’s infused with. To create a truly unique and refreshing taste, Hendrick’s is infused with cucumber and rose petals which make it wonderfully refreshing with a delightful floral aroma.
Although Scotland isn’t traditionally known for its gin, Hendrick’s draws upon centuries of distilling expertise and pure soft water from the local Penwhapple reservoir to create this marvellous spirit. It’s also handcrafted in minuscule batches of only 450 litres at a time. The reason for creating this beverage in small batches is so there is more control over the quality. To produce a gin which is supremely smooth with subtle flavour characteristics, two spirits are combined and then the botanicals are boiled, then bathed in a vapour. A lengthy process but well worth the effort.
Now that you know all about this remarkable gin, here are a few of my favourite Hendrick’s cocktails to get you through summer.
